28 people from across the three counties came together to meet each other last Sat. 25th May in Bundoran. They were there to share their experiences as local environmental networks and learn more about Sustainable Development Goals and Biodiversity.
Environmental Speakers
There were three very inspirational speakers from Sligo Environmental Network, Leitrim Environmental Network and the Donegal Environmental Linkage Group. Each spoke very openly and passionately about their group, its work and the challenges and solutions they have found.
Sustainable Development Goals
Michael Ewing delivered an overview of the Sustainable Development Goals, bringing the audience through the process from their predecessors to the possibilities for the future. He highlighted the fact that the goals surrounding our environment are the base upon which the success of the other goals depend.
Birdwatch Ireland
Michael Bell from Birdwatch Ireland spoke about his knowledge of biodiversity, sharing his in-depth experience of certain species, and giving everyone a new found fascination with moths! He broke the topic of biodiversity into three elements;
- conservation
- education and
- research
He shared his personal experiences in each of these interlinking fields.
Biodioversity Success
The participants held a discussion on actions for biodiversity and successful examples from Ireland and abroad. The outcomes of this discussion will be collected into a biodiversity handbook and circulated to attendees and PPNs.
Many thanks to all who participated in the day!
