Does your community have environmental initiatives? It’s time to share and learn. Why not take part in an expo event for the North West?
The Irish Environmental Network is hosting ‘Local Environmental Networks – Working together for a Local Sustainable Future‘. It takes place in Bundoran Community Centre on Saturday May 25th.between 11 am and 2 pm. The day showcases examples of local projects that have a positive environmental impact, and can be replicated by other community groups. There will also be a workshop on local climate action.
As part of the day, local groups can host a stall showcasing their work of interest.

If you would like to take a stall, have posters displayed or show off anything to do with your local environmental work, get in touch with Catherine by email: catherine@ien.ie. Spaces are limited so please be quick! Taking part as a stallholder is free, lunch will be provided and you are invited to take part in the activities of the day as well.

Leitrim Local Environmental Network Formed and Active
It took a while to get it up and running but the Leitrim Local Environmental Network held its first meeting at the end of March and is out of the blocks with actions.
Almost 30 people attended the first meeting from all over County Leitrim. The group identified topics of focus including:
- Native Trees
- Clean water
- Fish,wildlife
- Healthy soils
- Clean air
- Biodiversity
- Monoculture
- Recycling in communities
- Small scale farming not valued
- Botanical species
- Urgent need to retrain teachers (1st and 2nd level) in Environmental and Climate matters
- educating parents
- self sufficiency
- rewilding areas
- organic food markets
- fertilizer in food chain…and more.
The group immediately called on Leitrim County Council to clarify the position re the appointment of an Environmental Officer for the county. They also promoted invited all local election candidates to attend the Environmental EU hustings organised by the IEN in Carrick on Shannon on 26th April. A similar event will take place for local candidates in Manorhamilton on Thursday May 10th at 7 pm at the Bee Park Centre, Manorhamilton.
