Nominations are sought: The following vacancies for Leitrim Public Participation Network representation exist and we are seeking nominations:
- LEADER Evaluation Committee, Leitrim Development Company– Carrick on Shannon Municipal District, 1 woman, 1 youth representative;
- North West Regional Drug & Alcohol Task Force – Community & Voluntary Representatives – 1 woman, 1 man.
NB: Nominations should be received by 4:00 pm on Monday 5th Nov. Postal submissions will be accepted on Tuesday 6th: this date was previously advised in error (confusion over Bank Holiday – Apologies).
Requirements of Representation:
Please read the requirements of the positions carefully and check with any nominee you propose that they are able to fulfil the duties in terms of time commitment. See also the Leitrim PPN Representatives’ Charter.
LEADER Evaluation Committee
Carrick on Shannon MD Representative: This Person must be nominated from a group registered with Leitrim PPN in the Carrick on Shannon Municipal District. To maintain gender balance across the Committee, we have been asked that the candidate should ideally be female.
Youth Representative: This person should be nominated from a group registered with Leitrim PPN as Social Inclusion and the nominee has an understanding of Youth concerns.
A representative for either of these positions needs to be available for Evaluation Committee meetings which can be monthly (but generally 7-8 times per year) and usually take place in the afternoons of weekdays in the offices of Leitrim Development Company, Church St. Drumshanbo. The meetings are called well in advance and on agreement of the Committee. Leitrim PPN and Leitrim Development Company recognises that volunteers have many demands on their time. Leitrim Development Company ask that people on this panel, including the PPN reps, be available and to attend as often as they possibly can. Leitrim PPN asks for a general and short feedback from each meeting. Obviously, no confidential details should be provided. It is also requested that notice of meetings be given to Leitrim PPN so that any questions or issues that members have may be raised in advance of the next meeting.
North West Regional Drug & Alcohol Task Force (NWRDATF)
Community & Voluntary Representative: The voluntary representative nominated should belong to a voluntary group or agency servicing or based in Leitrim. They should have an understanding of the local issues relating to drugs and alcohol problems, as well as a commitment to dealing with it. The two key areas of voluntary involvement are – i.) education & prevention and ii.) treatment/rehabilitation.
The nominated person is expected to promote the work of NWRDATF and contribute to discussion and debate on that work through Leitrim PPN. The NWRDATF is involved in policy development and representatives contribute to this work through their mandate from Leitrim PPN.
There are usually five meetings per annum held in venues in Carrick on Shannon, Donegal, and Sligo. The meetings are usually held on weekday mornings. Travel expenses are met. The meetings are scheduled at the beginning of the year.
Again, Leitrim PPN and NWRDATF recognise that volunteers have many demands on their time. It is asked that PPN reps be available and to attend as often as they possibly can. In the case of more than one eligible nominee being put forward for any of the vacancies Elections will be held at the forthcoming County Plenary at the Mayflower Centre, Drumshanbo, 8:15 pm on Wednesday 7th November 2018.
Nominations and Voting:
Every group registered to Leitrim PPN has one vote at County Plenary regarding decisions made and ratification of elections. However, nominating and voting in elections are restricted as follows:
