Leitrim Heritage Forum is Seeking Nominations

What is It?

The Leitrim Heritage Forum is a new structure which  will form a partnership between Leitrim County Council and heritage stakeholders in Leitrim. They  will work together to address heritage priorities, promote best practice guidance and meet local heritage needs. A priority of the Forum will be writing the Leitrim Heritage Plan, which will set out the priorities for Heritage in Leitrim over the next 5 years.

The Heritage Forum will consist of 22 members including local elected members and representatives from heritage stakeholders including Leitrim County Council, community, tourism, farming and statutory bodies.

What commitment would be expected from a PPN representative e.g. time and location of meetings, participation in subgroups, becoming a company director etc.?

The Heritage Forum will meet approx 4 times in 2019. Once the Heritage Plan has been written the Forum may choose to meet less frequently.

Meetings will be at the Aras an Chontae, Carrick-on-Shannon. Travel expenses will be paid to Representatives.

Meetings will last for no longer than three hours. The first meeting will be held during working hours. Following this, meetings may be held in the evening if requested by members.

The Heritage Forum may be divided into three working groups, according to the heritage pillars listed below.

Heritage interests within the Forum will be divided into three pillars and will cover

  • Natural Heritage;
  • Built Heritage and Archaeology;
  • and Cultural Heritage.

It is requested that the PPN representatives have an interest or expertise in one of these areas. Nominees are being sought from each Municipal District.

An induction presentation will be given at the first Forum meeting.

Requirements of Representation:
Please read the requirements above carefully and check with any nominee you propose that they are able to fulfil the duties in terms of time commitment. See also the Leitrim PPN Representatives’ Charter.
