What’s Happening?

There were 35 events in Co. Leitrim over the weekend for the Big Hello. We hope you enjoyed your local gathering and got to meet some friends – old and new.

Your PPN Reps have been busy with many of them attending their last meeting before the Local Authority elections on May 24th. Some of the committees on which they sit will reform after the elections and you will be asked to nominate a new set of Representatives from your communities. If you want more information on what’s expected, don’t hesitate to get in touch.

A General Meeting of Leitrim PPN took place in Drumshanbo on April 3rd. This was a lively and engaged meeting. Full draft minutes will be available but a general update is available on the Leitrim PPN website – CLICK HERE.

Plenty of other news to update and lots of funding, training and other opportunities below.

FORESTRY POLICY REVIEW – UPDATE

Over 150 submissions informed a recent forestry consultation carried out for Leitrim PPN. The Report was provided to the relevant committee (SPC).

On April 23rd 2019, the Strategic Policy Committee on Economic Development, Enterprise and Planning welcomed the report and agreed that:

  • the SPC will study the report and in relation to each objective will advise the PPN (a) the means (be it policy, plans, programmes, authority or other mechanism) by which the Local Authority can contribute to achieving the objective, or (b) the reasons the local authority cannot contribute to achieving the objective.
  • That this SPC commits to bringing the report to the full council for discussion prior to completion of the CPD review.

WASTE WATER TREATMENT RESEARCH – UPDATE

Sustainable Options for Single House (Domestic) Leitrim PPN April 3rd Dr Brian McCann of Sligo IT has been supervising a research project on behalf of Leitrim PPN and in cooperation with Leitrim County Council. This research is looking at current systems and policy relating to waste water and building one-off houses. This is a hot topic in rural Leitrim and other parts of the country where the soil doesn’t allow for good percolation.

It examines factors such as current regulations and available technologies. The aim of Leitrim PPN is that potential solutions – technological and social – might be identified that raise the chances of permissions and lower the associated costs for people wanting to live in Leitrim.

The full presentation (1.3 MB) is available by  here – LINK TO PRESENTATION.

The research continues with case studies and another update by Autumn 2019.
