NEWS & UPDATES

Lots of news in this edition and we need your input. Forestry in Leitrim is a hot topic and Leitrim County Council’s Forestry Policy is up for review. Why is this important to you as PPN Members? Current regulations on forestry mean that local authorities can only raise concerns and issues about planned forestry development under  50 hectares2  if the concern relates directly to a matter included in their policy. If the issue is not in the policy, no objection can be raised. Currently, all forest developments – amounting to land coverage of over 18% – is in developments of under 50 hectares2.

The questionnaire is available online, by contacting info@leitrimppn.ie for a paper copy or at all the Leitrim Libraries. Full article and online questionnaire – CLICK HERE

Waste Water Treatment & Planning

Leitrim PPN’s research on this has started. It is carried out on your behalf by Dr. Brian McCann of Sligo IT in collaboration with Leitrim County Council. An update will be available before Christmas to us and to the council. I

Issues around planning and Waste Water treatment for single dwellings made the news last week with Leitrim’s Martin Kenny, TD, tabling a Private Members Amendment to the Local Government (Water Pollution) (Amendment) bill 2018. The motion was not passed so the Bill will now proceed to committee stage as scheduled.  At that stage it is likely that Leitrim County Council will be asked for input and the fact that this research is being undertaken will be of significance.
