Thanks to all the groups and members that engaged with the General Meeting of Nov. 6th. A strong statement about Mental Health services and the imminent closure of Cuisle Holiday Centre was issued from the meeting as well as information about Sustainable Development Goals and the election and ratification of new representatives. Congratulations to the Breffni Community Development CLG and Rossinver Community Development Company for getting to the finals of the National Lottery Good Causes Awards on 2nd November. Well done. It’s great to have your hard work recognised and we hope you had a good time at the ceremonies.
                                   

Speaking of Awards, your community defibrillators are in the running for recognition at the Chambers Excellence in Local Government Awards this Thurs. 28th Nov. Keep an eye on the Facebook and Twitter for news of how we get on.

Good Luck also to the communities of Ballinamore, Drumkeeran and Fenagh at the Pride of Place Awards this Saturday in Kilkenny. Liatroma Abu.

News & Feedback

The cost of insurance for community groups was raised at the our General Meeting and hit the national headlines at the end of September this year. It is a key issue with PPNs across the country. In response, members were asked to comment on their experiences and the message was stark – community groups face closure because of the high costs and responsibilities relating to their insurance. Waste Water Treatment Research

The first phase of research into the issue of waste water treatment and planning for domestic housing has been carried out. For conclusions and news about the next phase – CLICK HERE.

 

Leitrim Heritage Forum Feedback

Leitrim Heritage Forum has been active since February this year. The work of the group has focussed on the natural, built and cultural heritage of the county. All discussions feed into a Heritage Plan for Leitrim which should be available in draft form in early 2020. For more on the work of the Heritage Forum to date – CLICK HERE.

Heat for the Elderly

One By One, is a non-profit organisation, that wants to make sure older people are not lacking in heat. Through sales of crafts and cakes they raise money to buy electric blankets and fuel vouchers. If you can support them through you craft or baking skills, or you know someone who could do with their help One By One wants to hear from you. For more – CLICK HERE.

LEITRIM CLIMATE DIALOGUE

A Climate Conference takes place in Leitrim in December.

Theme: Giving the facts on the county’s carbon emissions.

The Climate Resilient Opportunities for Generations Ahead (Croga) Conference is on Saturday, December 7th at Ballinaglera Community Hall from 10.30am to 4pm.

A new fund has been launched  that will provide financial support to community and voluntary organisations in the North Leitrim and West Cavan areas. The Community Connections Fund supports projects and/or activities up to a maximum grant of €5,000.

ONSIDE – Independent Living for People with Disabilities
This project, specifically centred in the Border counties, is equality led and supports disabled people accessing mainstream lifestyle choices beyond traditional disability-service provider ‘care’ options. The use of technology is central. For more infrmation – CLICK HERE.

QQI level 4 training course starting in Drumshanbo in February. Career opportunities include garden maintenance, landscaping operative, golf course maintenance, etc.

Shannon Flood SurveyDo you live close to the Shannon? A survey on flooding in the Shannon Region is underway by the University of Limerick.

The survey takes around 10 minutes to complete and closes around mid-January 2020. There is a prize draw for participating.

Sustainable Mobility PolicyA recent National Positive Ageing Strategy – Stakeholder Forum highlighted the difficulty experienced by senior citizens when using public transport.
Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport are conducting a public consultation on a Review of Sustainable Mobility Policy and have provided the link below for groups and Departments who wish to participate in the consultation.
The public consultation closes 24th January 2020.

Wild Salmon and Sea Trout Tagging Regs and Conservation Measures 2020You can now have your say on proposed tagging and conservations measures proposed for wild salmon and sea trout from next year.
Submissions, observations or objections can be made before December 13th next.

Climate Action Consultation for Agriculture
The Department for Agriculture, Food and the Marine invites interested parties to provide written submissions in relation to “Ag-Climatise”, a National Climate & Air Roadmap for the Agriculture Sector to 2030 and Beyond.Submissions may be made by written comments and/or survey. Irish Language Scheme 2020-2022
A new Irish Language Scheme is being prepared by Government.
Representations and submissions are being sought before the deadline of December 13th.

Hate Speech Consultation

Consultations are underway about how Ireland’s law in the area of hate speech can be improved.
This consultation forms part of the review of existing law in this area and aims to ensure that Ireland’s legislation on hate speech is fit for purpose.
