Leitrim County Council – Adopt a Road

Are you prepared to Adopt a Road where you live? Leitrim County Council are looking for civic minded people or groups to participate in their Adopt a Road Programme.

Leitrim County Council is inviting individuals and groups throughout Leitrim to get involved in the programme and adopt the roads in their own area.

The Adopt a Road Scheme involves individuals or groups adopting a designated stretch of road and arranging for the removal of litter from the roadside verges.

The Individual or Group participating in the scheme agrees in advance a Litter Maintenance Programme with Leitrim County Council. This would involve arranging for a number of people to collect litter from the roadside verges along the designated stretch of road at an agreed number of times per year, for example four times per year, that would be every three months.

Leitrim County Council will provide you, or your group, with equipment including Litter Pickers, Gloves and Hi-vis vests and will arrange for the disposal of the litter and material collected from the road covered by the scheme.

The Adopt a Bring Bank Programme has been in operation over the past number of years. It is a system whereby a group of individual in Communities where a Bring Bank Centre is located get together and monitor the state of these facilities. They carry out low level maintenance and inform the Environment Section of Leitrim County Council when the receptacles require maintenance.
