Climate Action is now a major topic of conversation and one that effect all of us..
Ninety-two per cent of EU citizens consider climate change to be a serious problem.
It features prominently in the Autumn newsletter from the Sligo Europe Direct Information Centre.
The Centre is located at Sligo Central Library, Stephen Street, is the starting point for information about all things EU.
In the latest newsletter, there are interesting items on the EU 2030 Climate & Energy Framework, Going Climate-Neutral by 2050 and National and Local Government responses to the agreed European Union Climate & Energy Framework.
The EU 2020 Climate & Energy Framework outlines targets and policy objectives for the period from 2021 to 2030.
These includes at least a 40% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions (from 1990 levels).
The newsletter also outlines the seven strategic building blocks to go Climate-Neutral by 2050.
These are energy efficiency, deployment of resources, clean safe and connected mobility, competitive industry and circular economy, infrastructure and interconnections, bio-economy and natural carbon sinks and tackling remaining emissions and carbon capture and storage.
