Speaking of Which…

This event would suit anyone with an interest in social farming, arts and/or rural renewal.
The “Speaking of Which” get-togethers are informal, one hour talks between artists, researcher, curators, policy makers and philosophers.
Saturday 12th May at 2 pm.
Áine Macken-Walsh is a Research Officer at Teagasc’s Rural Economy and Development Programme (REDP). Her primary interests are in cultural sociology with a specific focus on agriculture. Áine’s research activity is centred on exploring the socio-cultural dimensions of questions such as farm-level disease management; joint farming ventures. She is Adjunct Lecturer at the School of Political Science and Sociology, NUI Galway
Deirdre O’Mahony’s research and practice is grounded in engagement with different publics and communities. In 2007 she revived a defunct rural post-office as a public space, X-PO, to reflect the complex social, psychological, economic and natural issues affecting rural life and landscapes. Subsequent projects include SPUD which examines ideas of sustainability, food security and rural/urban relationships, through potato projects in Ireland, USA, Spain and the UK. O’Mahony has published and been written about extensively, had numerous exhibitions, fellowships and residencies including a Pollock-Krasner Award.
