What Is The Consultation About?
The Government has asked the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection to consult with families about recommendations from the Make Work Pay for People with Disabilities Report 2017 which may affect your family.
The Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection is now organising an extensive consultation process in relation to how it supports people with disabilities.
The purpose of this process is to engage people with disabilities, parents of children with disabilities, and sectoral representatives and to seek their views on proposals relating to early engagement with people with disabilities in line with recommendations 9A, 9B and 10 of the Make Work Pay report. These reports are now available in more accessible formats on the Department’s website for those people with disabilities.
Make Work Pay Recommendation 9A
Recommendation 9A is about proposed changes to the age at which one disability income support payment (the Domiciliary Care Allowance) ends and another (the Disability Allowance) starts. This recommendation may affect your family, or people you represent, so it is important that the Department hear about it.

Make Work Pay Recommendation 9B and 10
Recommendation 9B is about proposed changes to the Disability Allowance payment.
Recommendation 10 is about the idea of ‘early engagement’ in income support schemes. Early engagement means that if you are able to work and want to work, the Department will offer every possible support at the earliest possible opportunity to help you get a job.
