The Big Hello Poster

Thirty-five Events are taking place across Co. Leitrim this weekend in celebration of the Big Hello. The events are listed below. For more details check with your local group through someone in the community or on Facebook for times and locations where not listed.

Funding was provided through the Dept. of Rural and Community Development issued through Leitrim County Council.

Ballinamore Tourism CLG Celebration of the life of John McGahern
Local bus tour of various sites to learn about the history of John McGahern’s life, a plaque will be unveiled to John McGahern and the tour will finish in Glenview House for a lecture by Dr Michael O’Rourke, Trinity College, refreshments and guided tour of Glenview Museum.

Meal and music with medieval outfits, inviting other groups to join in.

 

Castlefore Development Song & Dance at the crossroads
An outdoor event with music, song and dance for the community to uplift people following the recent passing of two committee members.

 

Newtowngore & Corrawallen Church of Ireland Newtowngore Community Family Fun Afternoon
Party in Newtowngore Hall, inflatable obstacle course, giant games such as connect 4, jenga and parachute for group play, food and refreshments will be supplied.

Open air social event, everyone welcome and newcomers will be encoutaged to attend. There are different nationalities living in the village and they will be encouraged to showcase their cuisine, wear national costumes is possible.

A Walk and coffee morning for all especially older adults, vulnerable/isolated people who have enjoyed GAA or other community groups throughout their lives and have drifted away.

We will hold a party as a thank you for eveyones continued support and work over the years on the Keeldra lake amenity.

A get together at the men’s shed to get some work done at their premises and have some food and banter.

Get together at Fenagh visitor centre with food, music, dance, playtime and facepainting. Arts & crafts for kids/heritage and historic display, free guided tour to abbey, local produce on display.

Evening event at the Vocational School, a celebration of all the new classes and existing mens shed. A smaller meet the neighbours event will be held at The Willows estate.

O’Carolan Court Residents Association Community event for residents of O’Carolan Court estate
A social gathering for residents with music and refreshments to get to know their neighbours and discuss possible improvements for their neighbourhood.

Drumsna Boxing Club Drumsna Annual Boxing Tournament
Boxing tournament in St Mary’s Hall, Carrick, with visiting clubs. There will be 20 non competitive and 20 competitive boxing fights.

Bornacoola GAA Celebrate Our Community
Music, food and entertainment in Bornacoola GAA grounds for the young people and parents to come together and get to know each other especially those from new communities.

Leitrim Percy Frency Society Percy’s Party
Cross community weekend of drama, music , song and culture. On 4th May the Sweet Sprit gospel choir will perform a concert, the show will include a short play by Percy French. On 5th May a re-enactment of the famous court case between Percy French and west care railway company. Workshop on the life of Percy French & exhibition will be held.

Community Intergenerational Gathering on Sunday afternoon based around a BBQ for people to come together particularly the rural isolated and vunerable who have drifted from community.

Leitrim Village Development Avantcare Blueway Race
Avant bluewau run, 7k run, 1k Kayak, 25k cycle and trail run 500m. The event will attract over 200 participants.

Leitrim Cycling Festival Drumsna Neighboiur Skill share
Local people will come together for a coffee morning and bring materials to demonstrate skills, eg knitting, and to tell people about the skills they are willing to share, eg changing a tyre, baking soda bread.

An open day to encourage participation and integration fro the local community. We will promote Scor activities as well as sport. There will be entertainment, skills and culture activities for all.

Kiltyclogher Community Council Arbour Day
Community holiday event in which individuals and groups are encouraged to plant trees. Event will be held after mass and a tree will be planted in the community garden with a circular seat, there will be craft stalls and a community bbq.

Free open day with free tennis coaching, rackets and balls will be provided, this social event will include a BBQ and refreshments.

Drumkeeran Youth Cafe Bring a Buddy Party
We want to hold an old fashioned party with party games & food. We encourage out youth cafe members to bring a buddy, someone young or old to meet people and make friends.

 

Radharc an Tseipeal We want to run an estate event where we can develop another landscape area planting some soft fruits and edible plants ie herbs etc. This will be an estate garden and produce will be available for all. We are promoting a healthy eating policy for the kids in the estate. Development of a community garden and bee/insent friendly area.

 

Leitrim Sculpture Centre Communities in Focus
The LSC propose to host an exhibition of activates over the years by local community groups and organisations. It will start on Friday evening and run for a week. It is proposed to present this documentation to Manorhamilton Library after the exhibition.
